Host (MC): Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Halina Nguyen Channel. Our topic today is: "The Journey of Treating Blood Cancer for Mom."

Accompanying us today is Ms. Hoang, owner of Ngoc Tam Duong Spa. She has walked a long, arduous path full of challenges to fight this critical illness alongside her mother. And fortunately, the heavens were kind, blessing her family with an incredibly wonderful outcome.

Hello, Ms. Hoang. I understand that your mother's battle with blood cancer was not only long but also an emotional rollercoaster—from confusion and anxiety to hope and overwhelming happiness. Could you share with our audience the stages of this journey and how you and your mother navigated through them?

Guest (Ms. Hoang): Hello everyone. Today, I would like to share the difficult journey my mother and I experienced while facing blood cancer.

In the early days of the diagnosis, I was truly bewildered and terrified. My mother, who used to weigh nearly 60kg with a rosy complexion, suddenly became exhausted, lost her appetite, and suffered from shortness of breath. When I took her for a check-up, the doctor concluded that she had blood cancer (leukemia) and her bone marrow was no longer producing blood.

Hearing that news, I collapsed. I asked the doctor if there was any cure. He explained that because she was over 70 years old, she was too frail to withstand chemotherapy or strong antibiotics. The doctor bluntly stated that she could only hold on for about 6 months, as her anemia was severe and there were no viable treatment options.

Hearing that, I felt helpless. To maintain her life, the doctor prescribed periodic blood transfusions. Initially, she had to go to the hospital every two weeks for a transfusion. This went on for about 3 months, and her weight dropped from over 60kg to just over 30kg. At that point, our family was in near-total despair.

Refusing to give up, I researched alternative methods and found a Traditional Oriental Medicine practitionerspecializing in these conditions. Upon examination, he set two strict requirements:

  1. Strict Vegetarian Diet: My mother had to completely abstain from meat, fish, and all animal-based nutrition. She was only allowed to eat vegetables, brown rice, and sesame salt. The doctor emphasized that absolute commitment to this diet was a prerequisite for treatment.

  2. Herbal Medicine: He prescribed a specific course of Oriental medicine formulated to treat her condition.

At that time, I held onto hope with the mindset of "doing everything possible as a last resort" (còn nước còn tát), just hoping to keep her with us for as long as possible. Yet, after 3 months of strictly following the vegetarian diet and taking the herbal medicine, a miraculous change occurred. From being pale and physically depleted, my mother’s skin began to turn rosy, and she started gaining weight again—despite eating only plant-based food.

Seeing her progress, I took her for a follow-up visit scheduled for her blood transfusion. The doctor was astonished and said: "Wait, why is the blood count nearly sufficient and looking so good this time?" All her indices were stable, she had gained weight, and her recovery was spectacular.

Honestly, I didn't dare believe it was a miracle. But it is true—my mother has returned to a normal life. From being bedridden and unable to handle her own personal hygiene, she is now healthy and well-rounded. She can even go to the market and cook for the whole family as if she had never been ill.

Through my mother's story, I have contemplated that disease largely stems from what we eat. Changing nutrition—specifically adopting a vegetarian diet—and maintaining a relaxed mental state are the keys to helping the body self-heal. My mother was essentially reborn without a single pill of Western medication, relying solely on a plant-based diet and the Oriental medicine regimen.

Host (MC): Thank you so much, Ms. Hoang. On behalf of the program, I wish you and your family abundant health. Thank you all for listening, and see you in the next episode!
